Responsible Living Programme

The Responsible Living Programme is part of an EU project: ESF.02.063. It is a collaboration between the Home Economics Seminar Centre within the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes and the Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights.

This programme aims to support the well-being of youths, reduce the incidence of early school leavers and to equip the participants with life-long skills.

This hands-on programme enables participants to:

  • identify economic factors that affect life choices.
  • address financial needs.
  • develop a sense of personal responsibility to attain goal setting.
  • outline responsible ways of managing money and prioritise needs within a set of constraints.
  • acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required to allow them to adopt sustainable lifestyle principles and practices.
  • differentiate between shopping decisions based on sustainability, cost and quality.
  • identify the benefits of meal planning with special considerations given to food rescue and preparation of healthy meals.
  • attain entrepreneurial skills and develop a basic business plan.

The programme is facilitated in the Food Lab at the Home Economics Seminar Centre (HESC). It is held over a span of 8 weeks, 3 hours weekly and is accredited at Level 2 and Level 3 of the Maltese Qualifications Framework (Non-formal award in Responsible Living).
